shades of play

well, that’s a first: a hot pink topless grandma
painting to welcome you in. and grandpa is
just off to the left; come on in, don’t be shy.

these are our people —
art collectors, cool parents + big dreamers
who saw no reason to choose between
polished or chill interiors.

dSPACE studio built this dream abode
from the ground up after tearing
down the family’s original home.
we got into the grey matter + progressed
an urbane agenda with concrete floors,
jaw-dropping marble surfaces, linear
seating and a promise that every sightline
was a serious sculptural shout-out.

space to gather was the priority, and
style would ride shotgun, but every
fabric needed to be bulletproof against
grape soda— or tequila. a whimsical brass
sculpture descends from the top floor
and the palette drifts into lighter territory
the higher you go. when it’s time to
pen
that autobiography the kids can write,
“dad wanted pink banquettes in the
kitchen, but mom won.”
