if this is the year of the woman,
then we know the lady running the calendar.
how else could a complete gut reno of a 1920s,
Harold Zook english cottage-style home
in hinsdale be such a blast?
for our second rodeo,
a collab with Michael Abraham architecture,
we gave her the gc hardhat,
and started playing with floor plans.
a fresh white coat did wonders.
we preserved the character
and quirk while bringing old confidants
and new consorts in the mix.
it’s a well-calibrated charm offensive:
french deco chairs, a groovy francine turk rug,
vintage lighting, her beloved african portraits
and a flawless, custom o’brian harris kitchen
with walk-thru portals
that will bring brutalists to their knees.
for the perfect love affair,
she gives enchanted evenings out back
among the perennials
and inside the—ta-da!—surplus coach house
tricked out with timeless treasures
and global objects that are good for the soul.
all that’s missing is the british heartthrob
(mr. law, pick a day)
and a knock at the door on a snowy night.
